B.t., or Bacillus thuringiensis, is a naturally occurring bacterium that produces crystal proteins that are lethal to insect larvae. What concerned Ticciati the most was the fact that American mothers didn't know the GM products were in the food they were buying.
"‘We have allowed these organisms to permeate our food supply to the tune of 60-70 percent, from infant formula to pizza to chips, to soda, candies, vitamins, you name it,’ Ticciati says. And, she maintains, GM foods aren't properly tested or regulated. Even so, she notes, ‘They sit on American grocery shelves unlabeled and unregulated with mothers unwittingly feeding them to their kids everyday.’"
